General Manager

We are looking for an experienced store manager to bring The Apothecarium’s culture of competence and compassion to our Marina dispensary, opening Spring 2017. This is a meaningful job, in a growing industry, for someone who wants a big challenge. It’s also a lot of fun. We’re looking for a leader with a proven track record of directing a large team in retail, hospitality, healthcare or cannabis.


Duties and Essential Functions:

  • Provide employees with guidance and growth opportunities and ensure the collective is a positive work environment while maintaining productivity
  • Demonstrate leadership and compassionate management
  • Supervise the activities and productivity of the collective
  • Assist in the hiring, training and termination of employees while providing guidance
  • Manage and delegate duties and responsibilities to staff and supervisors
  • Assist in the purchase of products from our vendors and complete inventory processes
  • Managing accounts and petty cash
  • Create and implement work schedules
  • Maintain the safety and security of all members and employees while remaining sober while performing work responsibilities
  • Protect guest, staff and assets from injury damage, or theft through prevention and rapid response
  • Prepare for major incidents, emergencies, natural disasters and crises
  • Stay abreast of all cannabis industry specific legislation, actions and enforcement
  • Create, maintain and enforce controls and procedures that are in 100% compliance with all applicable authorities and requirements
  • Sustain and grow programs and services
  • Support and maintain a functional network within the surrounding community with various entities (e.g., SFPD, District Liaisons, Community Benefit Districts “CBD”, Neighborhood & Merchant associations, etc.) to maintain our status as a well-intentioned and involved organization
  • Establish new business relationship, and build trust with members and vendors
  • Assist in creating work schedules that accommodates the needs of the organization and team members
  • Actively monitor the cost of operation and achieve desired sales margins, including partnering with finance to manage budgets and expenses
  • Partner with lead inventory manager to ensure the appropriate selection of salable products are available at all times
  • Develop marketing and sales plans to appropriately move products in a suitable amount of time
  • Construct, implement, and improve upon company policy
  • Evaluate and review managerial performance and team member performance
  • Represent the collective at community functions and meetings while maintaining professionalism and respect
  • Ensure the collective’s reputation does not suffer negatively in any manner
  • Open and close the store as needed


Required Education and Experience:

  • Prior retail management experience (5 years)
  • Prior management experience leading large teams (2-5years)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or equivalent in professional and life experience
  • Experience working in the medical cannabis industry highly desirable
  • Experience working in the health & wellness industry highly desirable
  • Must have a Medical Cannabis Recommendation
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check

  • Demonstrated passion to serve the medical cannabis community and local neighborhoods
  • Proven ability to manage teams effectively and ensure excellence in training and performance
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles and able to interpret financial data
  • Basic math skills, ability to set financial goals, and make sound financial decisions.
  • Basic computer and information technology skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
  • Basic abilities in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign)
